“Do you like fishing, Nathan?” I looked over at Heidi’s father and pasted on a pleasant smile. The water was smooth as glass, and I could see Heidi’s eyes widen. I didn’t see that it mattered whether I liked fishing or not. Our parents wanted us to get married. I felt like the two of us had slipped into the Dark Ages, where our fathers had plotted out our destinies.
“Not particularly, sir,” I told him with a shrug, seeing no reason to lie to the man. “But I do think the water brings out the blue of Heidi’s eyes.”
