She ran. Her arms and legs a blur of motion as she raced away from him. She could hear him. Feel him. Each time she thought she was safe, she’d see him again, dressed in his black coat, his eyes boring into her soul. She was tired, legs trembling with exhaustion. No one could run faster than she could. Daphne was sure of it. The wind was knocked out of her as she was pinned against the wall. Her screams echoed through the alley as he cut into her forehead, her worn shoes tapping on the bricks as she died.
