I folded my arms across my chest, leaning over the edge of the bluff to look down. I could hear Claire’s scream echoing of the walls of the canyon as she fell. We were high enough up for her to reach terminal velocity, and she hit the ground like a ripe watermelon.

Gabe and I mirrored each other as we licked our lips, both of us counting down the seconds while we waited. “What if she doesn’t come back?”

“We’ll need a spatula?” I joked. “She’ll be back.”

“Well if she’s not walking in two minutes you lose the bet.”
