Noah was on his way to the airport. Gabriel Gray would be busy engraving the watches for Nathan and Peter, and I would quietly slip into my role as Arthur’s devoted wife. This close to Christmas I didn’t need to make excuses for why I was away. There was always some party with the girls or shopping to keep me busy. It gave Arthur time for his business, and it gave me the space I needed for Company business. The last thing any of us wanted was Arthur to get interested in the Company. I especially didn’t want him to get his hands on Gabriel. He was my weapon to use, and I had no intention of sharing him.

I quite enjoyed the game. Arthur thought I was up to something, and I’m certain he thought I was having an affair. It wasn’t as if he didn’t have his dalliances. He’d been stepping out on me for most of our marriage. I didn’t mind. I had a few of my own over the years. It was perfectly normal, and as long as he kept it quiet. The second one of his bimbos tried to blackmail him for money or went public with his activities; I’d have to divorce him. I’d have no choice then.

The maid let me in with a tight smile, which I returned in kind handing her my coat and gloves. The house was blissfully warm, and I could hear Arthur talking to the boys in the parlor. I didn’t need to paste on a fake smile for them. It always made me happy to see my boys at home. Nathan looked polished and determined, doing his best to get his father to listen to his point about something or other. I know it irked Arthur that Nathan wasn’t in the family firm, but I was proud of him for making his own path as much as he had. Besides, it would be better for his future for him to be in the District Attorney’s office.

“Peter.” I held my arms out to my youngest as he let me pull him in for a big hug. “Are you eating enough? You look thin.” And he needed a haircut. I tugged on his long bangs and then cupped his face with both hands. “You need a haircut. I can barely see your pretty eyes.”

“You mean the puppy dog eyes, Ma?” Nathan joked. “We’re all better off without seeing those. They’re a dangerous weapon.”

“Only to you, Nathan,” Peter teased back. He knew that he had his brother wrapped around his finger. Their closeness warmed my heart, but I knew that in the end it would cause no end of grief for Nathan and his career. I loved Peter, but he was as dangerous as Gabriel. Hopefully my dreams would show me the way to protect both of my sons before it was too late.

“You’re staying for dinner, aren’t you?” I asked them both.

“I can’t, Ma,” Nathan said with a slight frown. “I have my own tree to put together with the boys and Heidi, but I’m sure Peter can stay. He can’t live on ramen alone.”

“Where have you been all afternoon, Angie?” Arthur asked as he handed me a glass of wine after Peter escaped my clutches and kissed me on the cheek. He wasn’t suspicious or not more than usual.

“I was Christmas shopping. Wait until you see what I got for you.” The wine was one of my favorites, and Arthur got a kiss in return to thank him for his thoughtfulness.

“Can we get a hint?” Nathan asked as Peter handed him a box of ornaments for the tree. It was my favorite kind of tree; white flocked and so tall that we’d need a ladder to put the angel on top. “You know it’ll drive Peter crazy that he doesn’t live at home, so he can’t snoop.”

“I’m not the only one who snooped, Nathan!” Peter laughed. “Who do you think taught me?”

“Peter, your father and I have no doubt that you learned quite a few sneaky things from your big brother.” I settled on the divan and pulled the box toward me, so I could hand them the ornaments one at a time. It was the only way to make sure they were hung on in the proper order.

“Now what have you three been up to all day?”

I LOVE this. And not just cause I'm in it. :-D

I love that its a happy snippet, at least, as happy as this family gets. I guess its about as warmhearted as you can get with the Petrelli clan.

Thanks. It was a different turn for me, and god knows I'm always afraid to let inner-Angela out. She terrifies me.

Your mom is a lizard, Peter.

*laughing* That was a good Christmas Sylar. I could tell you horror stories about some that weren't so great.
*small smile* But then, I guess you've got yours too.

You paint such a distinctive portrait of Angela here, and the ending was a lovely family moment - as much as it can get in this family. :P

Well done!
