Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Finding Claire was problematic. Peter was walking besides me. I could feel his apprehension. She’d shot him, burned him virtually alive, killed my son, and was responsible for our brother’s death, but he still was reluctant to kill her.
“Get with the program, brother. Claire dies.” I slammed my forearm into his throat, knocking him back into the security gate. It rattled and shook, his body hit hard enough to break the liquor store window behind it. When I let up on him, the gate was twisted and warped from the impact.
“Fuck Gabriel.” He coughed rubbing at his throat until he healed. “Was that necessary?”
“Sylar! Gabriel has left the building.” I glared at him, ready to punch his fucking lights out if he got in the way of my revenge. “Gabriel died with Noah. He died in Costa Verde along with 200,000 innocent people. People who died because of Claire like our brother.”
“I know. You keep telling me.” Peter almost reached out to grab my arm, but hesitated when he realized what a mistake that would be. “It’s my fault too, you know.”
“Oh I know.” I didn’t stop walking, we were almost to our destination. “If you weren’t so guilt ridden over it, I might decide to kill you too. I still might. Brother or not.”
“Gabe, Sylar, come on.” He hoped I didn’t mean, but his empathy or mind reading told him I did.
I took the steps two at a time. It was a familiar path. I’d been to the apartment so many times since Chandra rented it all those years ago, but it had been a long time. I hadn’t been there since I brought that idiot Maya there when I was powerless. Not one of my shining moments. I much preferred remembering making a piñata out of Mohinder and nearly killing Peter.
“You never stop do you?” Peter poked me with his elbow. “Thought we were family now?”
I was beginning to doubt that I needed Peter with me at all. It wasn’t as if I couldn’t take Molly’s power by force… “Of course we’re family, Peter. But we’re doing this my way. Understand?”
“If we were doing it your way, I wouldn’t be here. But I get it.” He stepped in front of me to get to the door first. “Stay back and quiet. If they see you, they’ll panic. Molly’s not going to let you near her, and I’m pretty sure Matt’ll shoot you too.”
“That’s why you’re here, Peter. To be the friendly face.” I reached over and ran my finger down the scar on his face. “Don’t blow it.”
“I won’t.” He knocked on the door, two quick raps. I listened through the walls; inside I heard the sound of crying. There was a baby, Molly and I could hear the ragged sobbing of an adult male. “Matt, it’s Peter.”
Listening I heard Parkman tell Molly to watch the baby. I didn’t know Parkman had a kid. Good it would give me more leverage if Peter couldn’t sweet talk them.
“Peter what the hell are you doing here?” The door opened a few inches, while I kept out of sight. “Haven’t you done enough damage? Daphne is dead because of you!”
“So much for playing nice,” I said, slipping out of the shadows. With a wave of my hand, I sent Parkman crashing backwards through the apartment, pinning him in place on the wall. Dishes, pots and pans rattled and broke from the impact. “We’re going to need Molly’s help, Matt. She told Claire where to find Peter, and now she’s going to tell us where to find Claire.”
“Sylar.” When Parkman it sounded right, my name, more of a curse than anything. “Keep away from her!”
“Please, Parkman. If I wanted to kill Molly, I’d have done it years ago. Unlike fucking Claire, I don’t kill children.”
“You killed Daphne. She couldn’t run fast enough!” Thick tears ran down his face. “You bastard!”
“That bitch was yours?” I growled, tightening my grip on him, until blood mingled with the snot bubbling out of his nose. “She helped them kill my son!”
“No, please, no,” Molly squealed from the doorway to her room. Behind her the baby was screaming bloody murder. I knew just how it felt. “I didn’t know. I didn’t want to do it. She made me! It’s my fault. It’s all my fault.”
“Take it from her, Peter!” I snapped at him. “Take her god damned power, or I will!”
“If you hurt her, I’ll kill you, you fucking son of a bitch,” Parkman said in choking gasps.
“I’m already dead, Parkman. I died with my son, my brother and the others.” I stepped closer to him, so tempted to tear his power from his skull. It would be so much easier if I could control the minds of others. I could feel him trying to use it on me, but my walls were too thick, my anger blocking his efforts.
“Sorry, kiddo.” I smiled as Peter got close enough to Molly to absorb her ability.
“Did you get it?” I was really going to need to take that from him when this was over. He didn’t deserve it. He never had.
“Don’t I always. We can leave now. I can find her.”
“Your bitch died because she deserved it, Parkman. She was no angel. Don’t let Molly suffer for it either. It’s your fault. You should have told Daphne and Claire no. You’re a shitty father.” I let Parkman fall to the floor, adding just enough of a push for him to break a few ribs when he landed with a grunt.
“Sylar.” This time I let Peter take my arm. “I know where Claire is.”
