Summary: In which Candice takes Sylar to the Company in Vegas not Mexico. It still wasn't one of her better moves.

Another Roach Motel -
It was too cold in the motel room. The air conditioner that sat in the window listed to the side and wheezed more than the man on the bed. A trail of rusty water ran from it leaving a blood like stain on the dry wall. He listened to the fan inside of the unit wobble and hiss. Through the walls he could hear the shouts of a man and his wife as they argued over money. In another unit he listened to a man wrap a rubber strip around his arm before shooting up some drugs.

Gabriel envied that one. The pain in his chest kept making him see stars. His long fingers toyed with the tattered bandage that was stained much like the wall. Candice had done a fine job helping him get away from the fiasco at Kirby Plaza. She'd been nice enough to get him all the way to Las Vegas. It had been a shame when he'd overheard her telling her Company masters that she was bringing him in for them to finish their work. It hadn't been a shame when he'd cut off the top of her skull and taken her ability.

Corpse disposal hadn't been much fun though. Concentrating enough to lift her bulk into the dingy bathroom had cost him, making his head spin until he'd had to lean against the wall to stay upright. Then the blast of controlled nuclear energy had burned her to nothing but ashes that he washed down the drain.

But now he was tired. His head sank into the pillow that smelled like a mixture of too much bleach and mold all at the same time. As the shadows grew long, he could tried to curl into a ball to fall asleep, but all he could do was feel his mother's blood coating his hands.

"I'm sorry," he cried letting the hot tears run down his cheeks. "I didn't want this. Why couldn't you have just been proud of me for once? Why did you have to do that?" His long lashes were glued to his salt stained cheeks when he finally managed to fall asleep.

***
Gabriel woke up sometime in the depth of night. There was a shiny spot where the useless clock on the nightstand had been blinking twelve until he'd melted it. He touched the wound. The one that Hiro Nakamura had given him when all he'd been trying to do was stop Peter from destroying New York. Stupid little twit. He'd pay for what he'd done to Gabriel too. They all would.

Sitting up he flicked his finger to turn on the bright lights in the ceiling then peeled the bandage away. The wound had closed over again. Luckily he healed much faster than any human could. Sadly he didn't heal nearly as fast as Claire Bennett. That girl was still on his list. Someday he'd have her gift too. Or he'd just find Petrelli and take them all at once. Gabriel closed his eyes and dreamed about having Peter's power. The ability to just absorb another's gifts by being nearby. It would be quite a time save. Although the lack of killing might get boring.

When he decided he was healed enough and the hunger was more than he could stand, he trundled out into the night. Dark eyes glancing towards the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip. He ran his fingers over the money he'd taken from Candice and started walking. He didn't pay attention to where he was going. His mind would memorize the way back to the hotel if he decided to go back there.

The diner was small but the food smelled good. He pushed the door open, keeping one arm posed near his injury to protect it then strolled to the first empty booth. Its vinyl was cracked and peeling, and he could feel stalactites of gum under the table. "Ew." His nose wrinkled in disgust. The menu was dog eared, and was filled with the usual truck stop fare except for a mixture of Mexican food.

"What can I get you?" The waitress asked. She looked like the old cranky monster in Monsters Inc. She even smelled like cigarettes.

"Short stack, three eggs and lots of bacon. Coffee too." He smiled up at her. "Lots of coffee please."

Both of those are just made of "win". I cracked up at the twit comment and the whole "time save" thing. Count on him being more concerned with time than the actual mess and wrongness. Good times!

The title alone brings a smile to my face. Poor Sylar.

"The one that Hiro Nakamura had given him when all he'd been trying to do was stop Peter from destroying New York."

Oh my gosh. <3 I agree. XD

Wonderful. I mean, I love Sylar as the narrator. He adds so many fun details that I have *fun* going along with him. Even though he's having a difficult time of it.

Hugs :). This was a different version of Sylar for me to write. I think it works. But I'm not sure. He's a lot crazier then the 5YG version I've been playing with.

Yeah his life has been pretty crap ever since he hit the road. Thought it would be fun to play with a different version of him too.

Glad you liked it.

But it makes sense. He has spells in the show where he is crazier at this time compared to another. One of the real breaking point was his mother which you covered. I still would love to know if it is the powers that helped contribute to his insanity or if it was genetic or his mother raising him or all the above. I am always interested in knowing the origin or motivations for people's actions which is why he is so fascinating to read about as well. There is so much room to play in with him.

Was it harder to write compared to the others?

Actually it was harder, but I think it was more because I chose third person instead of first for him. I didn't want to see too closely into this Sylar's head - not yet. I pretty blame it on mommy. She wasn't a good person.

I always heard that 3rd person narrative was more difficult than first.

See into his head...OM! So later you plan to? This "incarnation of him"?

I blame it on Mommy as well, but I do wonder if the "quirk" of his powers helped unbalance him even more. The abilities might bring along their own price to be paid. But I definitely agree that Mommy wasn't a good person to Sylar. I was very upset for him when I watched that episode. Before that, it was harder to sympathize with him. Now....You keep thinking, "What a waste for the good guys side!" Same for the guy that Hiro met back in time in Japan.

Hope I am not bothering you by responding so quick. Got insomina at the moment due to getting stomach bug and the story really got my attention so I just have to comment.

You're not bothering me at all. I feel your pain on the insomnia. Not much sleep for me lately.

There will probably be more of this Sylar. He's really too much fun to let go of. I'm RPing 4 different versions of him on 3 different games right now, so I use those posts frequently as ficlets. That's where this story came from.

I'm playing:

5YG Sylar on [livejournal.com profile] vegas_twilight - the battle between Sylar/Peter sent him back those years.

S1 Sylar also on [livejournal.com profile] vegas_twilight - because the good guys needed someone to hunt, and I couldn't let them have MY 5YG Sylar.

S1.5 Sylar on [livejournal.com profile] tenebrae_nostro where he's had months to mellow out and plot. He's tangled up with some power players there.

500 Years Gone Sylar on [livejournal.com profile] acrosstheverse all because of the Firefly crossover I wrote.

And hopefully they all come off different but still Sylar.

:)

You do an excellent job of capturing Sylar's voice. Nice touch with the using the controlled nuclear blast to reduce Candice's body to ash. I never would've thought of that.

Thanks glad you liked it. Yeah he's got to find a better way to clean up after himself if he wants to keep from getting caught again.

:)

"Thought it would be fun to play with a different version of him too."

Ah, I noticed that. It's so awesome. All characters have layers and you're really exploring each of Sylar's.

I liked it a lot :) I've played Sylar in a few places and he's an interesting character to get inside his head.

I think that's what makes him a great character. He's got so many layers to dig through. Those dimensions just make him fascinating. I haven't had this much fun since I started picking Caleb's brain apart.

You're more than welcome to check out any of the games I play in. I list them in a reply on this thread. I've got Sylar, but there are other pups available. Especially in Vegas, since it's a new comm.

I actually just took a break from rp lately, but I may come back one day and if the games are still around, I'll check them out :D
