The first bullet spidered the windshield, long cracks spreading out from the hole in the safety glass. I spun the wheel to the left crossing into on-coming traffic. Horns blared, and I was treated to the horrified look on a soccer mom’s face while she tried to avoid a head on collision with her mini van and my car while her kid in the front seat flipped me off.
Dodging between the onslaught of cars heading toward me was kind of fun. The chaos in my wake, cars crashing into each other, the sound of twisting metal and vehicular violence was great. I felt like I was living in very own video game, and it wasn’t as if I could die.
A bright yellow Primatech van careened into the passenger’s side of my car. The door crumpling toward me, as the weight and power of the van shoved me off the road, and practically folded my car in half. The screams of tearing metal and rubber drowned out my growl of frustration when the van pinned my car against a towering bridge support made of concrete and steel. The safety glass of the windshield exploded in a harmless shower of glittering glass pebbles. With a wave of my hand I sent the van back the way we’d come, I flew out through the broken windshield toward the van to deal with the pricks inside.
I tore the door off of it, reached inside and grabbed the first agent by the throat. He wasn’t special, but that meant the other one was. I snapped his neck before he could draw his weapon, then I climbed into the van to find the other one. No reason I shouldn't get something nice to make up for the loss of my very pretty stolen car. The special was battered and dazed from the accident. He looked up at me, blinking slowly with red energy crackling over his fingers.
“I remember you, Hiro’s friend. I didn’t want your brain before, but I want it now.” I ripped his skull open instead of taking my usual time to cut carefully. Blood splattered everywhere as I yanked on his short hair to crack him open. I pushed my fingers deep inside, looking for the sweet spot to make it mine. When I found it, I closed my eyes and sighed as the power clicked into place.
It wasn’t the only click I heard. The other went with the gun that was pressed against the back of my skull.
“Hello Sylar. Good bye Sylar,” Bennet said as he pulled the trigger.
