Wrapped or not:Wrapped, very badly. But with love.
What's inside:Your copy of Pillars of the Earth.
Message: I grabbed this before we left. I thought maybe when we left you might not.. might not want to be with me out here. I thought at least I would have this.. a touchstone, of sorts.

I even read it.

Gift for Peter

The weight was familiar in my hand, and so was the bad wrapping job. Peter was sitting back on his heels a few feet from me next to our first Christmas tree. His hair was hanging down in his face, and for some reason he was nervous.

I opened the wrapping carefully, prying the tape loose before folding the paper back. I smiled when I saw the silver lettering for Pillars of the Earth along the spine. It looked just like the copy he gave me before. When I knew we could do this.

I'm watching him closely, though I don't need to. My empathy is tuned in to him like radar and I breathe a sigh of relief when he smiles.

"It's been in my sock drawer for months."

I smile up at him, brushing the hair from my eyes. I don't have to ask but I do anyway.

"Do you like it?"

I hold the book up to my nose and sniff. "Is that was the smell was? I couldn't figure it out."

After carefully setting the book down, I pretty much pounce on top of him, pinning him to the floor where I start to tickle him until he has hiccups. "Yeah, I like it."

*Giggles underneath him, yelling for him to stop. Breathless*
You're such a brat.

Not a brat. I'm just in love. *kisses you until your toes curl*

*Doesn't get to catch his breath before you kiss me but doesn't care*
A brat in love. *Bites your lip* MY brat.

Wrapped or not: Wrapped beautifully and meticulously in a small box.
What's inside: An old, kind of battered gold wristwatch, set complete with a tiny barometric face and a compass.
Message: This once belonged to my father and he would wear it out to sea. I figure you would appreciate it more than Will would one day. My father always liked time pieces himself. Thanks for being a dear friend.

I’m glad that I read the note before I touched the watch. Its weathered crystal and scratched case warn me that it has a lot of history. It contains the memories of William Scully, his years in the Navy, his time with his family, his time with Scully, and I’m almost afraid to touch it.

With the utmost care, I wind it then hold it to my ear to listen to the works. I’m not allowing the psychometry to show me anything. I want to hear its heartbeat. There are a few gears that don’t fit properly, and I make a mental note to replace them. I’ll make the insides good as new before I give it to Scully’s son someday. The outside I’ll leave as it is because this watch earned its scars.

Wrapped: In brown paper, but with a colorful ribbon and with Christmas stickers all over it.
What's inside: Warm socks. But there's tickets for the plane
to the icehotel inside one of them.
Message: Nothing is perfect unless I can share it with you. Love you so much. xoxoxo, Gabriel.

Wrapped or Not: Wrapped very carefully in shiny black and silver paper; it kind of looks like a ruler was used to ensure that the lines were straight.

What's Inside: A mirror blocks Rubik's cube (http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/additional/large/b077_rubiks_cube_mirror_blocks_ondesk.jpg) and an antique-y fob watch (http://server14.sitewizard.co.uk/sites/clothingformennew/shopimages/image_8.jpg).

Message: I won't lie and say I'm the best with this kind of thing, but someone as obsessive-compulsive as you could do with something to occupy you, and a watch that's more for the visual effect than the time.
