watchmakersylar: (He Started It)
18 – Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?

I wish I could say I have a trigger, something that sets my mind off, but I really don’t. Usually I’m chatting with friends, and a bunny will bite. I’ve taken to calling the really pushy ones Rabid Plot Bunnies or RPB. Had one of those last weekend when we were discussing how to make a RP situation work out. In that scenario Gabriel has a twin, Michael. A couple of months ago,

Gabe’s player said, “Wouldn’t it be cool if Mike was all in Gabe’s head?”

I said, “Hell yes!”

Then last week I started pondering about the real Michael Gray. I was inspired in that scene by Gabe, who is nearly Sylar’s, murder of Isaac. He did it in a bathtub. Suddenly the image of the real Michael Gray in a bathtub full of blood when he was a teenager popped into my head. Gabe’s player and I chatted some more, and before I could do anything else, I had to write a piece for Michael about his suicide, and where he was today.

It was a blast. I love it when RPB’s bite.

If you’d like to read Michael’s story, you can see it here on [livejournal.com profile] heroesreduxrpg Group #1 Tag. I’m now playing headMichael who still looks like Gabe, and have had a nice RP with Chandra from Mike’s real account. I can’t wait until Gabe and Mike meet in the flesh.

Although this was a roleplay situation, it’s pretty much the same way my writing works whether it’s fanfic or my original writing.

I get most of my plot bunnies from talking with other fans too. It's part of why comments (and since I've joined LJ, conversations here) are so important. If I were just writing in the dark, without feedback, the plot bunnies would never find me. You're lucky to have a good group to get inspiration from!

It's funny how my groups have come together over the years. When I first started online RP back in 1999, I met one of my BFFs for life. We became a group of 5 players, friends and now real writers. We don't RP anymore, but we're all published or soon to be. We still talk about writing though.

My new group, which is also made up of about 5 people, seem to be heading in the same direction. We share ideas, and we run amok with gardening sheers in our claws.

I think the biggest reason why I will never give up RP or fanfic, is I love the instant interaction with other people. Of course that's also the Leo ego that loves comments. I admit it.

I think there's a group out there for everyone. I just lucked out to have two of them. =D

Ima lookin'.

I'm a Leo too, if you couldn't tell from my overblown ego.

I agree that RP is something I'll never get away from. As long as I'm thinking, I'll be telling stories to myself and it is so, so much more fun to find others to tell them to, and hear theirs.

Then it's almost your birthday too. Mine's on the 12th of August.

Cool. Mine's the 8th. 8th day of the 8th month, born 8 pounds and 8 ounces. But not at 8:08 AM. That would have been too perfect.
