Sarah: There's a dead body in my bed and it smells like shit and it looks even worse. And if you don't get your ass up here now, my Daddy's gonna lay you down next to her. I swear to fucking God! for [livejournal.com profile] scifi_muses
Notes: There is character death in this fic.

It was a lovely kitchen in a very nice apartment in SoHo. It was decorated in burnished chrome and there were expensive appliances dotting the countertops. My favorite part was the knife block. It was red as blood and shaped like a little man. The knives were thrust through it, turning the little man into a piñata. I liked it a lot. I might have to get one for home. I should say my second favorite part.

The drops of blood fell slowly one after another. Warm crimson from the tips of my fingers landed with a tiny splat on the bright shining white tiles of the kitchen. I hunkered down on my heels, watching as the puddle slowly spread, matting her long dark hair as the blood cooled.

“It wasn’t personal. I wanted you to know that. Sometimes I can’t help myself.” Her power was mine now, and I let my head loll back and as I made it a part of me. “And what an amazing power it is.”

Taste would be first. I closed my eyes and focused on my tongue as I licked a few drops of her blood from my hand. It was an explosion of color and aromas, the senses mingling as my brain processed the input. Nothing had ever tasted as wonderful, and I brushed my tongue over my fingers to get more of it. I couldn’t feel my tongue. My sense of touch was gone as was my hearing, vision and my ability to smell. All that there was in that bright scarlet moment was the taste of her blood, and I could savor it like never before.

My perception shifted as I shut off my sense of taste, and I let the coppery scent of her blood fill my mouth and nostrils. This was a perfume that I was used to, and it made me feel safe and warm. It made me feel powerful. Beyond the blood I could smell her shampoo and her soap. They were mild and light, much like she’d been when I’d met her. Rachel wasn’t the only one who lived here. I could smell the other woman too, and her scents were more exotic and expensive. I took one last breath of Rachel’s cooling blood, and with it I could smell the approach of decay. There was no life left in her, and soon her blood would start to stink like a fetid corpse.

It was as if a curtain had been drawn open when my eyes began to work again, and the world around me went silent. I couldn’t smell the hint of decay or Chanel any longer. I dipped my finger into the blood, and I watched as a single drop welled up on the tip before gravity sent it to the floor. I followed every change in the tensile surface of the drop, watching as it pulled from my finger, forming into a sphere before impacting the tile. It splashed, tiny droplets that no one could see with the naked eye except me. Each drop forming like the first had and creating more and more microscopic drops that spread out in a corona like the sun right down to wear I could see individual blood cells break apart.

“Incredible.”

Next was touch. Every inch of my skin burned or itched where my clothing touched it. The pressure of my watchband made me want to rip it from my wrist, and I stopped myself as my nails hooked under the leather. I could feel Rachel’s blood drying and tightening on my skin, and I wanted it off. I wanted everything off of me. I scooted away from her corpse and panted against the cabinet while I fought for control of my overwrought senses. I wanted to peel my skin off, but I knew it wouldn’t help. When I sank my teeth into my lip to fight for control of the ability, it brought tears to my eyes from the pain. But it helped. I focused on that spot of pain, and I learned to pinpoint which part of my body I wanted to be sensitive to touch. I ran my fingers over the broken crystal of my watch, able to feel each and every micro fracture in the glass and so much more.

The last I played with was hearing. I’d had that one before, so I knew how to keep myself from being flooded by all the noises in Manhattan. Instead of opening myself up wide to the onslaught of information, I only let a tiny peep of it come through. My heart was pounding like thunder, and I could hear the creak of my shoes as I shifted on the floor. Carefully I let more and more sound drift over me while I tested the range of my new hearing. Being blind while I did it was disconcerting, but I’d adapt to that as well.

“Do you think Rachel’s home?” I heard a man’s voice in the lobby of the building, and the sound of high heels before a female voice informed him that Rachel was almost always home.

I turned off my new ability and got slowly to my feet, rolling my neck until it popped, and made my way to the window. It was easy to open, and I flew out into the night sky. It was time to find someplace else to play with my new toys.

I guess our date didn't go that well...

(( Seriously, this is an excellent little fic. Very visceral and an great, detailed description of the power (and of course, Sylar plays with it right away). ))

*giggles* I still want to write more of Gabriel and Rachel's date. This is definitely a different verse.

((Thanks sweetheart. He just couldn't resist. He wanted it.))

Oh. Good...? I think.

(( Of course he did. It's an awesome power. ;) And yaaaay I'll look forward to seeing how that date turns out. ))

Ah, poor Rachel! But yes, what an enticing power she has.

I could see Sylar going after Nina's too, since he didn't quite get it out of Eden.

Well done!

LOL I think there might be something sinister about my main fandom killing off the characters in my new fandom, no?

Haha, probably, but it made me wonder. ;P

We've just brought Rachel and Nina into my main RP too. I have Skylar waiting in the wings, and I've found a Gary that is so good that I'm intimidated. It's going to be awesome.

Just found this, and loved it! The way you describe him going through each sense is perfect, especially his reaction to the blood, making him feel safe.

I hope this turns into a series!

Thanks muchly. I don't know if it'll technically be a series, but chances are Sylar will hunt the Alphas again.
