Prompt: 09. "If you come to a fork in the road, take it." - Yogi Berra for [livejournal.com profile] infinite_muses

Pain shot down my spine every time I moved. My hands stank of bleach and of gasoline as I crouched down on my aching knees to finish putting down the old, old carpet on the shop’s floor. The new old carpet was nothing but a sodden charred ruin in the Hudson river, weighted down by the smoldering corpse of Brian Davis and as many bricks as I could add to the human burrito that I’d made.

I discovered so many things about my new power while dealing with the mess that my first murder had made. Chief amongst those was that I could do more with my mind than I could my muscles. If I’d realized that sooner, my back wouldn’t hurt so much from hefting Brian into the van I’d borrowed from Abraham’s Dry Cleaners. Thankfully I’d figured it out when it came to adding the weights to the carpet, and when it became time to send Brian’s remains into the cold river water. If I’d used my own strength, it wouldn’t be long before he surfaced, but with the telekinesis I’d managed to send him halfway across the river to his watery grave. That thought made me chuckle. It sounded like a line from a bad pirate movie.

But for the clean up I need precision, and I didn’t have that with my ability yet. So I was on my hands and knees spreading the carpet out flat. A new carpet would draw too much attention if by some chance Brian had told anyone he was going to Gray & Sons. Seriously what kind of idiot goes to see a doctor slash scientist at a watch shop? It was idiotic, but it had been good for me.

I could have let Brian go. I could have called Chandra, and told him that Brian had come to see me. Then Chandra could see his amazing ability instead of me killing Brian to take it. But I knew what would happen if I did that. Chandra would cast me aside just like my father had. I had to have that ability to matter to Dr. Suresh. I didn’t have a choice.

Hopefully it would be enough. I’d called Chandra and told him that something had happened, and that he had to see it. He didn’t want to see me at first. Who could blame him? I’d been such an ass. But once he saw what I could do now, I knew that he’d want me to help him with his research. I could take Mohinder’s place at his side, and he could become the father figure that I needed so badly.

Cool! Thanks for writing. I'd often wondered what had happened to Brian Davis' body. Gabriel's a smart man, but at that point he was probably inexperienced in the killing people department, and of course working alone. Thanks for filling in the gaps!

If you watch enough CSI, you know how to ditch a body. LOL

I love how you described Gabriel here. His motivations are spot on.

I like seeing these little glimpses into Gabe's thinking back then and how he handled things before he was really Sylar.

Great job hun.

I enjoy transitional Gabriel a lot. He's so much more complex than they showed us, and god save him from the horrid Elle bullshit.

We got to see a lot more of back story-ish stuff from the others, I always wish that we'd gotten more about Gabe, tho I know that he wasn't, originally, supposed to make it past the end of the season.

But maybe that's why I like him more, we don't know his backstory as much as the others and that adds to his character.

I wish they'd done some graphic novels for him at least, but then that would ruin my fun of making this stuff up.

It would've been nice if they had, he never really got anything in a novel except for Molly's nightmare in the one. Is it wrong that I hope they'll put the last of the novels into one last book for us? It seems like it'd be fair, considering they made the first 2 volumes.

It is more fun, getting to fill in the blanks yourself. :D

I wish they'd put them into a book too. NBC so dropped the ball.

They really did. Hell, I'd be happy if they did a book with All them in, instead of just a third volume, I'd still get even tho I have the other 2.

But we won't be that lucky. *sigh*
