When I was twelve I followed my friend Mike into the walk in freezer at his grandfather’s butcher shop. It was so cold inside that I could see my breath, and my teeth were chattering after only a few minutes. Mike’s big brother dared us to see how long we could stay inside. Our lips were blue when Mike’s mom found out what we’d done, and I’d never been more grateful for a bowl of minestrone in my life.

Right now I’d kill for a bowl of that soup as the cold of the cell worked its way through my body. Every inch of my skin feels brittle, and my bones are aching not only from my fall but from the cold as well. They’ve dressed me in thin scrubs, and I’m surrounded by dirty gray walls. It’s almost like being inside of my brain. I bet this is what it’s like where I shoved Gabriel.

My powers are gone. I don’t know what they’ve done to me, but I will figure it out. I can hear them coming. The gurney they’re rolling down the hallway has a bad wheel. It squeaks and wobbles like a bad shopping cart. My guts clench up, fear spiking through me of what they’ll do to me today. Ever since Eden’s unfortunate accident they’ve taken to making sure that everything they do to me hurts.

“Get that thing down to the lab. Take him apart until you find out how he works,” I hear Bennet barking the order to his people.

The lights are flipped on, glaring white to blind me, and I’ve got to cover my face with my arms. I’m tucked into the corner of the cell, as far from the door as I can be, shivering from the pervasive cold, when they come in, dressed in their crisp lab coats while they pretend to be medical professionals.

“Get up, Gabriel.” I look from between my arms at Bennet’s glowering face. “It’s time to go.”

“Gee, Bennet,” I snap as they reach for me. Latex covered hands, getting a grip on my arms and forcing me to my feet while the sharp pain of a needle being driven into my neck makes me wince. “If I’d have known you wanted to play Doctor, I’d have shaved first.”

Notes: Missing scene for - Homecoming

It was the buzz of the hair clippers that registered first in my addled brain. I was strapped down on a gurney, too many glaring florescent lights blazed down at me. I couldn’t move an inch, and a quartet of doctors in bright white scrubs surrounded me. My mouth was still filled with the taste of blood and cotton, and my body hurt.

“Take him apart if you have to, but do not let him use his abilities.” I didn’t recognize the man with the horned rim glasses. His blue eyes were filled with steel and ice when he looked at me. It wasn’t the cool, detached gaze the doctors were giving me. This man hated me, and I had no idea why. He wanted me to suffer, and he would enjoy watching.

“We know what we’re doing, Bennet,” One of them said over his shoulder as he shoved a needle into my arm, and I felt the burning cold of something enter my bloodstream. I wanted to ask what it was, but I couldn’t make my mouth work. I couldn’t make anything work, and for the first time since I killed Brian, I was afraid. They were going to cut me up like a fucking frog. “He’s not the first we’ve dealt with.”

“He’s the first like him you’ve handled. This thing is a monster, and if I had my way, we’d be doing an autopsy to understand him not saving his life.” I could taste his hate. Christ what the fuck did I do to this prick?

“His injuries aren’t as bad as they should be,” Another one said, his face hidden behind a surgical mask. “How high did he fall from?”

“High enough that most of the bones in his body should be broken.” That voice I knew. It was her, the little dark haired pixie who made me sleep. I wanted that power, but then I wanted them all.

The hair clippers were shut off, and then I heard the sound of a Dremel drill. I knew the sound well. I had one in the shop for burnishing and cleaning the edges of the pieces I made. It was the same model most dentists used to drill out cavities.

Fear made me cringe. Were these bastards going to drill my teeth like the fucking Marathon Man? Fuck. I tried to move, but barely managed to squirm on the gurney. Someone or something was blocking my power. I was helpless, and I was terrified.

Then they started drilling into the back of my skull, and the world faded to black.

I almost wrote this letter to Angela, because she is the cause of so much pain and misery in my life. But I decided that you deserve it more because for all her twisted evil machinations, Angela at least takes responsibility for her own actions. You always fall back to blaming the Company for yours.

It was always the Company told me to do it. The Company told me to set you up, Gabriel. The Company told me to send Elle into your shop to manipulate you into murdering someone again when you were perfectly happy to kill yourself. The Company made me evil made me walk the fine line of gray.

Well to that, Bennet, I say bullshit.

You’re a man of above average intelligence. You’re more than capable of making your own choices in life, and you should have known better. You helped Chandra make me what I am, and then you play the family card when the Company excuse doesn’t work.

You hurt my daughter! Waa! Waa! Waa! Well guess what, Noah! SHE CAN’T DIE. Short of cutting her empty little head off and keeping it far, far away from her body, nothing I did to her is permanent. For all I know you’d end up with two little Claire-Bears if I did that, one growing from the head and the other from the body. Shame there’d still only be one fucking brain cell between the two of them.

So I traumatized her a little when I stalked her through your house, but I said I was sorry. I don’t apologize often, and I never do it unless I mean it. You on the other hand couldn’t tell the truth to God himself. You lie even when your lips aren’t moving.

You’re a bigger monster than I’ll ever be. I didn’t betray you when Angela made us partners. I’m not the one who was plotting ways to kill you. Hell I saved your fucking life when they had you in that bank. But you couldn’t see past the monster, the man you made me.

How about you do something different, Noah? Accept some responsibility for your mistakes. Admit that you’re the one who made a monster. You’re the one who destroyed your family.

By the way, where did Larry get to? Did you ship him off to military school or something? Must have made him feel good that Claire was so much more important than he was for you, and Mr. Muggles was more important to Sandra than he was too.

I don’t want you dead, Noah. I want you to suffer for as long as humanly possible.

Home is where the heart is…at least that’s what they try to tell you. Must be why I don’t care about anyone. I don’t have a home. I don’t have a heart. I tried for a little while. I tried to be the good boy. Tried to be the good son, but it didn’t matter. In the end, I’m just what I was born to be…a killer.

My mother, the woman who collected snow globes and tried to teach me right from wrong, would have been so disappointed in me if she could see me now. My hands were coated in blood, the cuffs of my shirt soaked and stained with it. It wasn’t my blood.

Angela would be so proud. My new mommy, the one who uses me to do her dirty work, her black heart would flutter with pride if she had any emotions. She kept telling me she did, but I knew better. Angela Petrelli was one cold bitch.

I rocked back on my heels to my feet careful not to smear any of the blood on my black suit. The end of my tie had a smudge on it, but some cold water and hydrogen peroxide would take care of that. Stepping around the corpse of Eldon Miller, I used my power to turn on the hot water in his kitchen sink. I ran my hands under it until the water ran clear.

“A waste of time isn’t that, Gabriel?” My partner asked from the window. He parted the blinds with the barrel of his gun. “You’re covered in it.”

“You’d think I’d be used to how much a head wound bleeds wouldn’t you?” I said with a fake smile.

“Of all people.” Noah frowned. He hated me. I’d given him good reason to. “Let’s get back. I’ll let you explain to Angela why you thought it was a good idea to kill an FBI agent.”

“Come on, Noah.” I shut the water off using my power too. My sleeves were wet now, but it was mostly water instead of Agent Miller’s blood. “You know my mother only sends me out when she wants someone dead. You’re just the lucky guy who gets to watch me do it.”

Bennet Season
I could still feel them. Every fist fall, every kick, every bullet that he’d put into me, but most of all I could feel the slice of the knife across my throat. The hot rush of my blood soaked into my shirt while he held my head back by the hair. I could hear Elle whimpering powerless and afraid while he ended my life, taking his revenge on me for terrorizing his family. For frightening his precious Claire Bear.

The eclipse came and went, life surged back into me. Noah rubbed my face in my stupidity for believing in Angela. More pain for me caused by him. My hatred, my need to destroy him has become my obsession. As if I needed another obsession…

Noah thought they’d all be safe when he let Parkman and Angela destroy who I was. He was so wrong. Poor little Claire still thought I was dead while I was forced to live inside of Nathan Petrelli’s skin.

I’d chewed my way out like Alien, Nathan was no more. I was back.

Time was on my side, first the boy. Little Larry or whatever the fuck his name was. I waited at the side of a busy intersection in Costa Verde. The look of terror on Lester’s face when the Mac Truck plowed through his car was priceless. The way his blood splattered over the mosaic of the windshield turning it to crimson stained glass was beautiful.

I smiled from inside Starbucks watching as Noah rushed out of his car. I’d been sure that Lyle was on a street Noah traveled on. His pain was exquisite. Either that or I was drinking the best mocha I’d ever had.

They blamed it on the truck driver, but he swore up and down that he’d hit the brakes. The poor man felt so bad about killing Lionel, his wife and newborn daughter that he blew his brains out.

Sandra was next. I never liked her. All it took was a gift certificate for a spa day. Face down on the massage table; I used the power I’d stolen from Doyle to keep her quiet. Her spine stiffened in pain and terror as I crushed her ankles in with my bare hands. I could taste her fear and it made me hungrier for more. I worked slowly using my hands and my telekinesis, ever so careful to never break the skin. I didn’t want her to bleed. I wanted her to die in agony. She was insane from the pain before I got through with her right arm. Her left was already hanging limp and pliant as putty.

I left her head intact; I wanted him to see the pain etched on her face. I wanted it to haunt his memories for what time he had left. She died when I drove her broken ribs into her heart and lungs. The trickle of blood from her nose and mouth was all I allowed.

I watched at the spa too, with mud smeared over my face, wrapped in a towel, so he wouldn’t recognize me. I wanted to see Noah’s face when he found out what I’d done to her. He cried like a little girl. The Coroner said it looked like Sandra had been skydiving without a parachute. I had to teleport away before I laughed out loud.

Claire was the hardest. I didn’t want to kill her. Perhaps it was a residual emotion from living Nathan’s life. Maybe I would need someone to keep me company through the eons, but I needed Noah to be alone.

She’d learned so much over the years, how to fight, how to shoot, how to be a little killer just like daddy. Her inability to feel pain let her keep coming when she should have given up. It wasn’t hard to get her attention, to set my trap. All I had to do was tell her I’d been the one to kill little Luke and his family, and brag about what I’d done to mommy. I’d done it in person, slapping a bloody handprint on her window to say ‘hi.’ My fingerprints and my blood, there was no denying I was alive, and that her father had lied to her again.

She was livid when she came for me. Seeing red, and in the end she couldn’t heal fast enough to stop me. I burned her skin off layer by layer, hit her with a truck or two, but she kept coming. Long out of bullets she still tried to beat me. I let her hit me in the face twice, her blows rocking me back, but that was only to get her within reach. Then with a smile I wrapped my hand and will around her throat used my telekinesis to slice her head off. If I thought Lindsey bled, it was nothing compared to beheading Claire. I was covered in it. It soaked through my clothes, splashed into my face and filled my mouth.

“Don’t worry, Claire. You still can’t die. Once I’m done with Noah and Angela for what they did to me, I’ll put you back together, and we can start our little game.” I took her head with me, holding it by her ponytail and tossed it into the passenger seat of my car. But not before I left my calling card for Noah. I wrote my name on the pavement in Claire Bear’s blood.

I didn’t hide from Noah. Why would I? I was the Spider King, and I’d woven my web for him and him alone. Now that Peter knew what he and Angela had done, he was in no condition to help him fight me. It was just the old man and me.

His fingers were spotted, his hair nearly gone when he arrived. Ted’s radiation had done a number on him. He didn’t have Claire’s ability to heal. His hands were shaking when he raised his gun to shoot me. I laughed in his face as he emptied the clip into my chest. I was smiling when I took a shot or two in the head too. I barely felt the pain as they hit, I’d had the ability long enough that the pain centers in my brain were starting to fry out too.

“Kill you!!!” he bellowed, charging at me with a knife in his hand. I flicked my finger sending the knife into the wall and lifted him from the ground by the throat. He hung there like a puppet waiting for my next move.

“Tell me, Noah. Did her body regenerate without the head? Have you been going down to the Company morgue to wait for her to come back?” I showed him the box where I kept Claire’s head, letting him see as her green eyes widened at the sight of him. “She’s still alive, not much fun anymore though. I should have killed Parkman, then Claire and I could talk.”

Noah was nearly foaming at the mouth. His rage was like ambrosia. His body trembled with it. I could hear his heart fighting to beat properly, and shooting pain ran up with arm. I dropped him to the ground, letting the heart attack I’d caused run its course. He staggered to the box, trying to pry it open to save her.

I came up behind him, taking his own knife and sliced open his throat, holding his head back like he had mine. Claire’s eyes looked about ready to pop as she watched her father bleed out. “Oh Princess, in case they never told you, that’s how I did Nathan too.”

I could hear the man’s watch ticking as he checked my bindings. A needle slid beneath my skin. The lab technician did it slowly, it felt as if it was miles long, and he was going an inch at a time. I wanted to scream, but they had me gagged. Bright lights burned through my eyelids as I bit down on the gag at the searing pain.

“Is he awake?” It was his voice again, the man with the horned rim glasses. He had an unnatural hate for me. I could see it when he comes to glare at me in my cell.

“Yeah, he’s awake.” The needle twitched, sending a spasm down my arm until my fingers drummed on the steel table I was strapped to. “No one could sleep through this. Are you sure they don’t want me to knock him out for these tests?”

“No, they want him awake.” He was lying. I could hear it in his voice. “And I want this bastard to suffer for what he tried to do to my daughter.”

Daughter, ah that explained it. It was my fault though. I should have been more careful when I went after the cheerleader. I certainly should have made sure I was popping open the right skull. Hindsight, Gabriel…

The poison he pumped into me was spreading like ice water in my veins. Arching my back, I lost control of my legs, and my heels pounded on the table. The back of my head slammed into it like a gong. I could smell my own piss as it soaked the hospital gown they’d dressed me in.

I came back to the stink of burning hair. They’d used the shock paddles on me again. They’d killed me again. Bennett ordered them to keep me alive. If it takes me an eternity that man will suffer for this. Killing his daughter will be nothing compared to the rest of what he has coming.

But first I need to get out of here. Time to play possum.
